I tried the Classic theme, thinking it had (at least) three footer widgets based on what I saw on the home page (assuming that is the Classic press them) but once activated, I see no footer widgets. So is the home page them here different?
The CP website has hardcoded links in the footer. But we are updating the CP theme to enable widgets in the footer.
Hi,
I’m currently working on a fork of The ClassicPress theme which will have multiple widget areas - this will include a widgetized template that can be use to almos replicate the ClassicPress home page using widgets and the page contents.
I can post a screenshot as proof of concept as I’m currently working on it on my local server and if there is interest I can spin up a demo site for close inspection
I think as a fork (with a new name etc) it can be a great addition to the directory of themes!
Would love to see it in the directory. Coming from theme reviewing and themer for WordPress I’m more used to SVN and Trac way of doing things. Let me figure my way through GitHub and will submit for inclusion soon.
In the meantime I’ve spun up a demo site at ClassicPlus Theme Demo any and all feedback are welcome and will be very much appreciated.
As Tim already mentioned, upcoming version of The ClassicPress Theme has a footer widget area included (so you can replace the static content) and has multiple other improvements in structure and styling. Have worked on it myself, the last couple of months. Did also consider adding a widget area to the homepage, but I don’t know yet whether this is allowed or not. There are strict rules/conditions for default themes. Tim is listed as author, he can tell you what’s possible/allowed.
OK now that’s food for thought! Maybe I should hold tight for the new version and then do my mods as a child theme instead?
You can view the latest version at GitHub, and there’s currently 1 Pull Request that will be added soon. If I’m not mistaken a theme update becomes available soon.
