I’m very much of the school of thought that plugins (and themes for that matter) should not change the layout or presentation of core “things” (even when it’s on their own pages.)

Not trying to suggest you break the CP rulebook but I just thought the use of overlays might be something for CP to consider. Just throwing it out there.
