Some observations on the update thus far:
- WordFence shows that there is a new version of “WordPress” that needs updating.

This would be a change required on WordFence’s end. I don’t think there is much we can do in that regard as it is probably hard-coded, so the best bet is to reach out to their support

Does this notice disappear if you go to the Updates page in the dashboard and click Check Again?
On my sites, WordFence does not show ‘new version needed’ after updating to RC1.

Right. I knew what WordFence was displaying was obviously not a WordPress update but a CP update.
Just wanted to let you know the message read that way, if that was not known at the time and something you wanted to be aware of.
