CP Translation

I may land a project that will need translation.

  1. What plugins are compatible with CP?
  2. What other system might be available?
    Thank you!

On this I have to come back to you later in the day since I am a little busy at the moment. CP itself is localized in Crowdin, do you know the main locale you will need it localized in already? If yes we can check if that is complete - if not there is a process to at least align it and release the locale to support you in this process.

Thank you.
English and Khmer (Cambodian)

At present we do not have the Khmer (Cambodian) locale. This involves importing it from WP that currently sits about 34% compledness. I think it’s better than nothing. I asked Matt to do this because it will need to be uploaded and released as a partial. Do note that we try to at least reach between 50-70% to release a locale but in this case even WP has a very low completedness and I think we can start with this.

That said - you do need a plugin allowing you to localize core, plugin and content I guess, given the fact that you will have both English and Khmer locales and Khmer is as of now a low partial. I will focus on testing/searching something that works with CP and from a localizer/translator/interpreter works as intended without overbloating the site or making things complex.

I didn’t expect Khmer. It’s not a large population.
I appreciate your efforts and we have some time.

Even if it’s not a large population, it’s people nonetheless. And they deserve to be represented within the CP locales.

I am happy to report that I do have a solution for the Khmer locale (to bring it to completion hopefully) - I will get it set up in Crowdin after the core meetging since it requires a step at admin level.

Among the localization plugins I tested many throw errors, or are not really effective given the fact that they only offer a bridge to paid AI services (and add a markup to them in exchange for the free pluigin).

I have found WP Multilang. In its free version it is just a way for you to enter translations and have the site fully localized (hint, you can use tools like MateCat to translate texts free and upload them to the site when ready).

Thanks!

That’s really good news.

I haven’t landed the gig yet, so there is still time to get up to speed with those extras.
