Hello - New to ClassicPress

Hello ClassicPress community. I’m a freelance website designer / developer who has used WP for about 12 years. I’m checking out ClassicPress as an alternative to WP.

I found ClassicPress because of #wpdrama, but I find it answers some of my feelings of frustration with WP over the last few years. I’ve only used Gutenberg intentionally on one client site, who happens to be visually impaired and uses a screen reader. When I show Gutenberg to my clients as one of the page builder options available, they say no right away, because the UI is unintuitive.

I’m looking forward to trying ClassicPress for a hobby website, and also seeing how it works with LiveCanvas.

I like the idea that this is essentially WP and will present a smaller learning curve for me, but give me the option of marketing it as an alternative to WP, because I know some WP users (potential clients) are fed up with WP for various reasons and moving to Squarespace.

Thanks to everyone building ClassicPress.

@createscape Welcome! You’re going to love ClassicPress and the community here. I have yet to find any client or designer that likes using Gutenberg.

Hello from Vancouver btw. Really nice website and portfolio of work.

I second that. In my capacity as a small business mastermind community manager, I surveyed members.

Only three used Gutenberg at all and then only for landing pages or their home page and NOT for their blogs.

Every time I read someone claiming Gutenberg is easier to use, I have to wonder what they have previously used that is anything like it.

Personally, I detest it. One client has it turned on, but thankfully the content I’ve edited for them is all in one Classic Block. (And is still glitchy to edit.)

The way Automattic pushed Gutenberg into core even though 50+% of the reviews on WordPress were still 1 star irritated me so much that I switched my site to ClassicPress.

It is a very old site (started in 2009) so I can say that CP has been very stable and I’ve only had one issue probably caused by a plugin I hadn’t ever used before.

I highly recommend CP to anyone who doesn’t want to be at the mercy of what decisions Automattic may come up with next.

Oh, and it is faster, too!
