Human.json Plugin

I came across an interesting protocol idea called human.json.

I have created myself a plugin for it here.

This is part announcement, and part asking for advice with my approach to building this plugin. It’s only a relatively simple thing, but I would like to start making more plugins to share with the community, so would love feedback on anything from styling to security etc.

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

In principle the idea might be good, however it is still possible that sites built and managed with AI get equipped with it (in an attempt to fool people into thinking there’s a human behind them).
Some notable points however:

  • the suggestion to create a page stating how one uses AI for their site is something good. The plugin could possibly create a page with a standard template that users can then adapt. Let’s keep in mind however that there are no legal obligations to declare how one is managing their site content and/or if they are usng AI to do so and how (at least where I live in Italy) and that page would just be a courtesy to readers and a way to educate them about AI, ethic use of AI and the like.
  • human.json feels more like an attempt to connect people who know each other offline also online with a trail of vouches.
  • AI is not the real problem, people and the way they use it is the problem. There is a concrete risk that this kind of informal network generates the idea in readers that people who use AI are “all bad people wanting to do bad things” and the ones in the network are “saints who demonstrate they are good by self-proclaiming to be humans”. People are gullible like that because it’s easy to generalize without really doing the effort to check.

My idea is do not market it as a way to create a divide - market it as a way for a site owner to teach how to ethically use AI the correct way. If you market it as a way an author can be an example to people you will do great good because we need that in this world that is changing due to AIs.
