I’ve just submitted a “Web App Installer” for the popular Virtualmin Hosting Control Panel.
As an active member of both the “core team” here, and as “moderator + trusted business partner” at Virtulamin, I am happy to put in the time to make this installer available to both the existing Virtualmin community (it is presently being reviewed by the team for inclusion), and introduce the ClassicPress community to this amazing hosting control panel.
Virtualmin GPL can be downloaded FREE of charge, but if you’d like to take adantage of more features or support the project, you can upgrade to a paid Pro license.
*** While under review, if you do decide to install Virtualmin at this time, please reach out and I can send you instructions on adding ClassicPress installer to your installation. ***
I’ve a (virtual) server that I use for hosting some of my client’s sites, and this uses Plesk to manage sites.
Must rebuild that server. Was wondering if the free Virtualmin can be used instead of Plesk, and if (seems so) there is a way to “import my server”.
Yes, Virtualmin works as a drop in replacement for most panels including cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, etc.
You should be able to do a “backup” from Plesk, and restore via Virtualmin as the panel knows how to import the backups of “most” versions of Plesk. Should you run into a specific issue, the team will work to resolve this and as a “specialist” I can also offer hands-on support to get you up and running if a “manual” restoration is required, and/or you require assistance.
*** If you run a single site, don’t need the extras offered by Pro, you can use the GPL (free) version without issue. You can always “donate” to the project in place of upgrading to Pro if it’s not actually needed. ***
FYI: you can manage unlimited sites via a GPL license as well, the limitations are the extra features like managing CloudFlare DNS, Reseller Functionality, etc… Essentially value-added features along with some additions that certain people may require. I run many servers on GPL alone and pay it forward in other ways since I’m not dependent on Pro features in my usage situation.
Just an update on the inclusion of ClassicPress in Virtualmin.
After some further discussion and clarification, I’m pleased to announce it has been accepted as a Virtualmin GPL (and Pro) Web App!
This I believe is another milestone for both projects and while the commit has been made for its inclusion including testing and code formerly submitted to their GitHub… It may take a release cycle to show up, however you can look forward to it’s addition in the near future.
Once I see it officially appear in the panel, I’ll send out a follow up with the news.
If you are in need of a clear, super cool control panel that is backed by a great support team, please check out:
*** Be sure to tell them @tpnsolutions sent you – no this doesn’t give me a kickback, just acknowledgment that my efforts lead you there ***
If you want to put together a better description, I can definitely get it over to the guys at Virtualmin. I believe the description was likely put together based on what they felt made sense at the time.
I’m happy to announce that Virtualmin 7.30.3 has been made available to the general public, and is immediately available to download for both new and existing users.
This version is the first to “officially” include the ClassicPress “Web App Installer”!
