I hope you are well. I am happy to be here. I have been managing a large e commerce site on word press for a few years, but I am becoming discontented with the path word press has taken with Reformation and other recent changes. After a research; I believe ClassicPress could be a better fit for my needs.
Although due to the size and complexity of my site; I am nervous about the conversion procedure. My word press store contains over 10,000 products; countless adjustments, and a variety of plugins that are necessary for its operation.
What are the main steps in transferring an e commerce website from WordPress to ClassicPress? Do you have any thorough guides and sources to suggest?
How well does e commerce work with Classic Press? Are there any recognised issues and restrictions to be aware of? Also, what about the suitability of significant Wordpress extensions?
Many of my websites features depend on focused plugins and a custom design. How can I ensure that these function perfectly with classicpress? Are there any programs and extensions for testing connections before making a change?
How does ClassicPress compare to the current WordPress versions, particularly on a major e commerce site? Are there any performance improvements and guidelines you would suggest?
Initially someone who may require support during and after the move, how active and helpful is the ClassicPress community? Are there any discussions, categories, or people who are really knowledgeable in e-commerce?
Given that classic press is a modified version of word press 4.9, which is sustainable in the future is it? Is there a regular update schedule and an active growth plan?
I am excited to make this change; but I want to make sure I do it correctly and avoid any major delays to my business. Your feedback and advice would be really beneficial.
But first, a correction: while version 1 of ClassicPress was indeed forked from WP 4.9, the version 2 series — we are currently on version 2.1.1 — was forked from WP 6.2.3. See ClassicPress Version 2.1 is out! | ClassicPress
This should be good news for you, because many more themes and plugins work with CP v 2.x. It’s impossible, however, to say if the plugins and theme you currently use will work with CP without knowing what they are. If they require blocks, they will definitely not work. If they don’t require blocks, they should work.
If you’re currently using WooCommerce for your main e-commerce plugin, then you would need to switch over to Classic Commerce | ClassicPress Plugin. You may still find that extensions you use will continue to work.
However, in the case of e-commerce with many products and many accesses, with many plugins, migration becomes a complex action which, if you are not able to do it yourself, requires the support of an expert webmaster, knowledgeable at least of WordPress. The advice is to contact a professional.
Converting a large e-commerce site to ClassicPress can be a complex process, but it’s definitely possible. I’d be happy to help you with the migration process. Feel free to share more details about your website and your specific needs.
Honestly, I would advise not to do this because it would take too much work, too many conflicts. I would suggest stay where you are, for now until ClassicPress is officially stable to ensure that you will get the benefit out of it. CP is great but it’s not ready for a bigger sites but if you really want go down that route, I hope it is an success.
What do you mean by “officially stable”? All versions of ClassicPress are official, and all are stable except for the “nightly” versions, which are created for testing purposes.
